The absolutely worst nitime noise violator is O connors pub on NE 2nd Street Delray. They have live bands on the weekends that can be heard blocks away. The surrounding area is all residential homes or condos. The patrons sit outside and get progressively louder as the get drunk. The bikers like to rev their engines at 1am, others live smashing their beer bottles in the dumpster and the teenagers who arrive by caravans of cabs drink until they puke in the street- A lovely place to visit at 1am

Delray is such a beautiful place with strong community intercultural relations. It’s beyond my reasoning to hurt the elderly or whomever, the people that make Delray fabulous! I love Delray and am applauding law enforcement for its efforts. Law enforcement must be overwhelmed in general, the city did protect more residents I’m sure. Thank you.

Thanks for posting Katie. I see what your saying but im still not convinced that more parking meters will decrease the price of a parking fine because the reason for the new meters is to increase revenue. If they lower the fine itself it would probably offset the new meters. If anything I think that you will be paying out your change to park everyday to go to work and then also probably receive a few tickets along the way. If you forget to move your car after two hours you may forget to add change when its due. Have a great day!

To have parking meters though it could allow the price of parking tickets to go down…. Not could but actually should. The people who get parking tickets in delray for the majority are the people who work in delray because no shift is less than two hours…. Why should te people who serve delrays community be the one to pay the most for this?! Not only that but I there were parking meters( which there could be many diff kinds installed from just change to change/ card accepting ones preferred for those who rarely have change on them) a person might be paying from 10 cents to two dollars for whatever they might be doing but isn’t that better than 35$- whatever amount maybe charged for a car sitting in one spot for even five minutes over the allotted time. If there were parking meters people wouldn’t have to worry about moving tier cars after two hours because they’ve been in one parking spot too long but insted of the hassle for employees/ tourists/ any person in general to do so wasting time, trying to find another parking spot when ts already difficult, they could insted just walk to their car and put a couple more coins in the meter or swipe their card. That small amount of change builds extremely fast for the city and doesn’t effect people as mch as a 40 dollar ticket would because for the most part change is the excess in people pockets or purses what they don’t need or want to soft trough but do like to get rid of. Where I’m from where there are meters tickets are 10$ or less and after a week will go to a 20$ ticket if you don’t pay it…. And in some areas could even only be 6$ because the money generated on the daily basis from parking meters creates a larger income for the city even opposed to a 40$ ticket every so often. Let’s face it in the economy today anywhere in this world there are people that 40$ to them is their groceries or which in some cases could be a fifth of their weekly paycheck and when that’s all you make one ticket can effect and set off all of your bills and necessities you barely have the money to pay. But if there were parking meters even if the ticket price didn’t go down( not saying it shouldn’t because it most certainly should if perking meters are installed) running back to your car once or twice to put another Dollar or two in is still more logical sensible and less stressful than coming out to your car every two hours to move it only to find out you were three seconds to late to get a forty dollar ticket and still have to move your car

Good point Chris. I agree the revenue could be great for the city and growth of the city, if they reinvest it. It’s an inconvience to the stores during installation and also a deterant to shoppers that would rather not deal with parking meters. So next time you need your office supplies you can go to Hands on Atlantic Ave and look for parking, then pay for parking, then go back and pay more for parking if you decide to stay on the Ave or you could go to Office Depot and probably pay less, no time to find parking, and you pay nothing for parking. It will make it even tougher for small businesses to compete, especially with the new Walmart coming in down the street…

Go to any major city and you’ll find parking meters. 600 meters at $1 per hour, even at only 12 hours a day, would make $2.628M for the city. During that time, let’s say they had to issue 5 tickets an hour at $20 each, they would net another $438K. That brings the total revenue to over $3M per year, easily taking care of the $2M investment in the first year alone. Chances are it will bring in even more, and as the city grows they could use that money to reinvest in the downtown area adding beautification and additional parking garages. Makes perfect sense to me…

Are you kidding me! Tennis great John McEnroe returns serve at the 2010 Tennis on the Avenue event on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach.

More than 2,000 people are expected to gather on Atlantic Avenue in Delray Beach Friday night when tennis great John McEnroe and old foe Mats Wilander play an exhibition in the middle of Delray Beach’s bustling main drag.

The free Tennis on the Avenue event, which takes place between Northeast First and Second avenues, drew a couple thousand spectators to its impromptu debut last year, and with the word out earlier this time, organizers are expecting more of a crush.

McEnroe played the 2010 event, and you can expect plenty of “Are you kidding me!” directed at the unlucky umpire, even if it’s all in good fun.

“McEnroe takes everything seriously,” said event spokeswoman Lisa Franson, with a laugh.

The hour-long event gets going at around 5:30 p.m., and Wilander is expected to arrive early to warm up the crowd, with a couple of spectators being chosen to hit with him. Art enthusiast McEnroe is scheduled to visit the nearby Arts Garage before making his grand entrance.

the picture you have for art and culture is UGLY…can you pick something better??? There are so many beautiful things that represent Delray Beach arts and culture and you picked the absolute ugliest most shameful thing…YUCK!!!!
